Celebrate literary artistry from 6:30-8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the ŗ£ĢÄÖ±²„’s Room 122, Terrell Hall, Cascade Campus for the Panther Press’ first foray into literary publishing in honor of the late, local poet Carolyn Moore, whose legacy gift founded PCCās Carolyn Moore Writers Residency.
The book release of āThe Great Uncluttering, The Collected Poetry of Carolyn Mooreā is the focus of the collegeās first event with series with a panel of talented writers. Featured readers include Oregon Poet Laureate Anis Mojgani; poet Shelley Wong whose debut āAs She Appearsā won the Pamet River Prize from YesYes Books and was recently long-listed for the National Book Award; Carolyn Moore Writing resident Baruch Porras-Hernandez; and PCCās 2022-23 Humanities & Arts Initiative (HARTS) writer-in-residence, Karah Kemmerly.
āPCC is a special place,” said Justin Rigamonti, PCC’s program coordinator of the Carolyn Moore Writers Residency. “We provide access to elite programming and writers, cross-culturally expanding the vision of the college. This level of access is like what one finds at Reed or even Princeton.Ā Come to Cascade and meet our Poet Laureate and the awesome Shelley Wong and funny poet-comedian Baruch Porras-Hernandez. They have so much charisma, talent and fun that we anticipate packing this room.”
The residency enables writers-in-residence to visit in-session classes, give readings throughout the PCC district, and hosts small groups of creative writing students in the great room of the Carolyn Moore house. This first-of-its-kind program for community colleges, provides PCC students the opportunity to meet and interact with talented writers from across the country since its opening last summer.
This is the PCC Panther Pressā first literary imprint, however, Rigamonti sees that changing as there are plans for expansion including the development of a writing contest awarding winning writers from a community college background.
The “Cover to Cover” event is free and light refreshments will be served. For more information contact justin.rigamonti@pcc.edu or visitĀ .
