Details about this class
Teaching math is a lot of fun for me. I love working with students and building a community of learners. When I'm not teaching, you can usually find me doing pottery or hanging out with my dogs and family. I'm looking forward to meeting you all soon.
This is a new class! So thank you for piloting/building this course with me. Our main goal is to prepare you for MTH 111 (Precalculus).
This class will take a lot of your time because it is a 5-credit class (4 math credits and 1 elective corequisite support course). The corequisite support class is not a study hall. It allows us to support prerequisite math topics and study skills required to be successful in this condensed course.
In a typical week, you can expect to spend:
- 7 hours in class working with the class on math. Time in class will be active. You can expect a lot of group work and time to engage in math.
- 8 hours outside of class doing (preparation assignments, practice assignments, studying, visiting the tutoring center, working with the mentor...)
Here's an example . I will share an updated one at the beginning of the term.
You will want a printed copy of the course packet on the first day and a 1-inch 3-ring binder. The packet is available at the bookstore. There is also free printing at Multnomah libraries.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Jess (she/they)
Technology
Google sheets, desmos, and geogebra will be used.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
