Details about this class
Welcome! I am glad you're here. I'm the instructor, Kelley Whitmore. I've laid out some class details below.
This is a LIVE remote reading and writing class. The majority of the classwork is done during our classes on Zoom Live Classes. You absolutely need a good Internet connection.
Access to the class content will be available through the D2L class page on the Friday (March 28) before our first class meeting on Monday, March 31. Announcement emails will be sent before class begins.
All assignments will be posted on D2L class page. The D2L class page will also have additional learning content. Assignments are based on what is covered during the class time. We will typically focus on reading on Mondays and writing on Wednesdays. We will build on what we learn each week.
While there is no mid-term or final exam, there will be quizzes and writing exercises each week. Developing skills in taking quizzes, writing, and asking questions so that you understand are an essential part of practicing for the GED, college classes and work settings.
As this is a remote format, access to your MyPCC and your PCC email is integral to your success.
You can access your PCC email by logging into "My PCC." Once logged in, look at the top right of the page for an icon shaped like an envelope. Click on that to access your PCC email. NOTE: You have to be accepted into PCC to have a "My PCC" email account.
Meeting with Students:
Homework help sessions are available by contacting the instructor. These are not required, but available if/when you need to review a class topic. Classes will typically be recorded and posted on the D2L class page. However, this is not a substitute for attending class.
I will check-in with you regularly on your progress, but please reach out whenever you have a question.
If you have questions, please email me at kelley.whitmore@pcc.edu.
Technology
We will use D2L which you can access by first logging into your "My PCC" account. Once logged in, notice the four icons at the top right of the web page. The first one looks like an open laptop computer. Click on that to access D2L. We will review D2L the first night.
Having your camera on during class is optional.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
