How Do Anthropologists Explore Culture?
This class considers contemporary human cultures and how we study them from an anthropological perspective. You will learn about different aspects of culture including language, art, gender construction, sex and marriage, kinship, politics, worldview, religion and globalization. We will use a cross-cultural perspective and consider several different case studies from cultures around the world. We will also examine systems of power and social justice issues related to U.S. society and other cultures through an anthropological lens. Though this exploration, we will also consider contemporary methods and approaches in anthropology as it moves towards a postcolonial discipline.
