Details about this class
Thanks for your interest in this class! I will be conducting this class through D2L, using a remote format. Simply put, this means we will have live class meetings using Zoom, on Tu/Th from 2-3:50 (some weeks we will only have one required Zoom meting, to allow for other required activities). This class has no on-campus requirements. My class meetings are lecture-based, but interactive: I encourage students to participate with questions and/or comments during our Zoom meetings! Besides the required class meetings, students will have flexibility in completing weekly assignments, in accordance with weekly deadlines. Required activities include five required discussion activities, three exams, a research paper, and a research paper proposal. Students will also watch some PBS/Frontline documentaries as part of the discussion activities.
When shopping around for the required text, go with the cheapest option, whether it's paperback or digital. It's important that you get the latest, 8th edition of the text. A copy of the text will be available at the Cascade library on 2-hour reserve.
If you have any questions or would like to check out the syllabus from a previous term, just let me know! You can reach me by email at tom.scales@pcc.edu.
Technology
This class does NOT require any special technologies, beyond those listed in the Online Learning Technical Requirements.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
